Such a small thing, but a make or break deal…

Just wanted to reflect a little bit on a recent discussion that Steve, Brad and I had about cameras.  Steve recently purchased a D700, which is our first full frame camera.  One of the things that we were talking about was why we did not decide to purchase a D3, aside from the obvious price difference in the two cameras.  A sticking point for us was the additional multi-selector knob on the MB-D10 grip that attaches to the D700.  We use this guy all the time when shooting vertically.  I can’t really understand why Nikon didn’t put this feature on the D3, and I would think that it would be a welcome addition for a lot of photograhers. Now in all fairness, I’ve never even held a D3.  I think Steve and Brad have, but that’s neither here nor there.  I do remember trying to alter my focus point on the D200, which also did not have the additonal multi-selector, and man it was a pain in the ass. I could only imagine that its the same way on the D3.  I could be proven totally wrong when I eventually get my hands on one, so I’ll re-post if I’m wrong.

Another thing that we liked about the D700 was the fact that the MB-D10 grip is interchangeable with the D300, our other primary cameras. This means that if we are traveling light, we only have to bring one grip with us. It also means that if we eventually decide to upgrade all of our cameras to D700s, we don’t have to buy additional grips.

One thing that I am jealous of is the dual CF card slots on the D3.  Those are rediculously cool, and would save so much time for our slideshows at receptions.
