Hey everyone. We’ll be in Lima, Ohio this weekend, shooting the wedding of Rachel and Ryan. It will be Steve, Dave, and myself on this one, and we’ll sure try and shoot some more video for you guys. From the research we’ve done into the venues, it looks like we will be shooting inside a pretty interesting church. From what I hear, there is a LARGE set of windows directly above the altar, leading me to believe that there will be lots of natural light, which always makes our job that much easier. We’ll be trying out some of the techniques we learned from David Ziser’s classes on Kelbytraining.com this weekend, and we’ll be sure to share those images on the blog. Ok so we might not be teaching any classes at Kelbytraining.com (yet…) but we did manage to sneak into the wrap-up video from this years Photoshop world in Orlando, FL. I was watching this series and came across a few fleeting frames in this video.

By the way, for any of you photographers or designers out there not using Kelbytraining.com for your online training and continuing education, GET WITH THE PROGRAM! This site is a tremendous resource for today’s photography and design community. I also can’t emphasize enough the importance of this resource to students. Don’t waste your valuable class time learning the programs, do it online.

Hey all, I actually got to go to a wedding and not shoot for once! I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy shooting, but every once in a while, its nice to sit back and let someone else do the job. Here are a couple pics I snapped with my Fuji F50fd.

I’ve had a few questions recently regarding mileage, and I thought it would be a good idea to address this issue on the blog. Many photographers struggle with the idea of charging for mileage, and while it is a business decision you have to make, there are obvious positives and negative to this.

Currently, we are listed as being Ashland Photographers, Columbus Photographers, even Ann Arbor photographers, due to our locations for shooters. However, how do we decide when to charge for mileage and when not to? For us, it all comes down to a base of operations. If we can drive from Ashland, Columbus, or Ann Arbor to a location within 50 miles of one of those cities, then we can usually save on hotel costs since we can get back to “base” relatively quickly. We like to pass those savings onto our clients.

Many photographers will also make the decision to always charge for mileage regardless of distance, simply because the cost of fuel has gone up so high. This of course is the question that you have to ask yourself. Do you eat the cost, or don’t you? Kaufman Kramer has always strived to provide top level service to all of our clients, and if we can help them by taking up some of these internal costs, then we’re going to do that.

Of course, I say this while gas is around $4.00 a gallon. We’ll see how we feel when it hits 6 bucks. (For all those brides out there, I wouldn’t worry… We’ll make sure to get to your location no matter what.) Just something on my mind that I thought other photographers would be curious about.
